What Is Potency?

Potency refers to the strength of a cannabis product, typically measured by the percentage or milligrams of THC and other cannabinoids.

Potency Explained

Cannabis potency refers to the concentration of active cannabinoids — primarily THC — in a product. For flower, potency is expressed as a percentage (e.g., 25% THC). For edibles, it is measured in milligrams (e.g., 10mg THC). For concentrates, it is also a percentage (e.g., 85% THC). While potency is the most commonly referenced metric, it does not tell the whole story. Terpene profile, cannabinoid ratios (THC:CBD), and individual tolerance all influence the actual experience.

Why It Matters

Understanding potency helps consumers dose appropriately and set expectations. However, the highest potency product is not always the best choice — other factors matter too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does higher THC percentage mean a better high?
Not necessarily. Terpene profile, cannabinoid variety, and your personal tolerance often matter more than raw THC percentage for the quality of experience.
